The following is the email we used to kick off our pre-sale launch of the ClickMinded digital marketing course bundle. If you haven’t already, make sure to read this post first: Burning the Boats: Going All-In on a Side Project.

Internet Marketers Ruin Internet Marketing

What an obnoxious subject line for an email, right? An Internet marketer saying Internet marketers are ruining Internet marketing.

Still hanging in Montreal at the moment, really liking this city a lot. It’s only a 4-hour drive from where I grew up, but it feels like it’s a world away.

But as cool as this city is, I’ve barely spent any time getting to know it—it’s pretty hard to focus on anything other than ClickMinded right now.

Before going down that rabbit hole, though, I want to talk about what inspired this big change we’re going to make.

Straight up: Internet marketers are ruining Internet marketing.

Everything you read is quick hacks, tips, and crappy Business Insider articles about chatbots. Everyone, shockingly, has “The Ultimate Guide for ”.

Look at this article about Tai Lopez on Entrepreneur.com on how to launch a business:

“To scale, Lopez says you need two things: viral free marketing and paid advertising”

… Oh wow! So grateful for this article, Tai – I’ll just go viral! Didn’t even think of that. THANKS, BOSS.

Let’s dig even more. Look at this treasure chest of amazing headlines I found on “why you need to be on Snapchat” after eight seconds of Googling:

  • 5 Reasons Every Business Should be on Snapchat
  • 3 Ways to Use Snapchat for Marketing
  • Why Your Company Needs To Be On Snapchat Right Now
  • 7 Brands That Are Killing It on Snapchat

OMG! Both “Snapchat” AND “Killing It” in the headline?! You guys are edgy AF! Quick question though, will this grow my business? Provide value to my users? Help me measure more accurately? Find new customers? Create new products?

Will these articles help me, my business or my life, in any meaningful way?

You don’t need me to tell you that this stuff sucks.

Let’s call this what it is: most of this is nothing more than cheap entertainment disguised as information.

What’s worse? It works. Sometimes, it works really well.

And we could do this type of stuff. We’ve done it in the past. We really scoped it out and thought about it. We started putting together a whole strategy on how to do more of it.

And then we felt gross.

So we threw the whole thing away and started over.

This is all coming from a place of being tired of digital marketers using cheap tricks on each other. We’ve decided to go completely against what seems to be working for everyone else. There will be no listicles.

You heard that correctly. THERE WILL BE NO LISTICLES.

Look, I hate to say this about some of my friends and colleagues, but there are some digital marketing blogs that publish 10 posts a day. 10. Posts. A. Day!

I promise you, you don’t need to read 3 articles a week on how to increase your Twitter followers.

I promise you!

You need great, experience-driven content with easy-to-use, step-by-step instructions on how to implement it on your own.

What that means is, we have to pivot.

We have to pivot the company, and we have to (try to) pivot the whole industry.

If you LOVE Tai Lopez, Business Insider, or Entrepreneur.com articles, please unsubscribe IMMEDIATELY.

But if you’re sick of this stuff, and you’re READY to 2x or 3x your business and become a world-class digital marketer – can you do me a favor?

Reply back to this email with the words “OH MY GAWD YAS”.

If not, just reply back to this email with the words “NO, I’M STICKING WITH TAI”

We think we’ve hashed out what it’s going to take to wade through all the entertainment, and it turns out, it’s just 3 things. These 3 things will empower anyone – regardless of their background – to become a world-class digital marketer.

Those 3 things will come in the next email.

Get FIRED UP.

Tommy

PS – Are you sick of this garbage too? Hit “reply” and tell me about it. Oh, and if you see funny examples of it out in the wild, send it over. I’m gonna start calling these guys out more.
