The concept of “followed” and “nofollow” links is probably taken to an extreme in the SEO community. We talk about it a lot in The ClickMinded SEO course. It’s also covered in the ClickMinded SEO Certification Test. CommentLuv is a plugin that incentivizes good behavior (and good comments) with followed links. It also has a really cool feature to incentivize social media sharing. It’s a tactic we considered doing at Airbnb, in order to rank our new Guidebooks product for terms like Things to Do in New York, Things to Do in San Francisco and San Diego Beaches. I’ve also used it to help with my friend’s eCommerce site. His primary keywords are Backpack with Speakers and Cooler with Speakers, and I told him I would help him out with a few links as well :).
