How to Connect Klaviyo to ClickMinded Newsletter Generator

Use this guide to create a Klaviyo private API key, connect Klaviyo to ClickMinded Newsletter Generator, and export newsletter drafts.

Use this guide to create a Klaviyo private API key, connect your Klaviyo account to ClickMinded Newsletter Generator, and export editable newsletter drafts to Klaviyo.

What this integration does

The Klaviyo integration lets you:

  • connect a Klaviyo account with a private API key
  • choose one Klaviyo list or segment for a newsletter
  • export a newsletter as an editable Klaviyo campaign draft
  • refresh campaign-level performance after you send the campaign

ClickMinded creates and updates drafts. It does not send or schedule email from your Klaviyo account.

Before you start

You’ll need:

  • access to ClickMinded Newsletter Generator
  • Owner or Admin access to Klaviyo so you can create a private API key
  • an existing Klaviyo list or segment to use as the newsletter destination
  • a verified From address or domain in Klaviyo before you send

Step 1: Create a private API key in Klaviyo

Klaviyo shows a private API key only once, and you cannot edit its scopes after you create it. You can start with Klaviyo’s private API key page with the required scopes preselected, or follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Klaviyo.

  2. Click your organization name in the bottom-left corner.

  3. Open Settings and select API keys.

  4. Click Create Private API Key.

  5. Give the key a name, such as ClickMinded Newsletter Generator.

  6. Choose Custom access and enable these scopes:

    • accounts:read
    • lists:read
    • segments:read
    • campaigns:read
    • campaigns:write
    • templates:read
    • templates:write
    • metrics:read
  7. Click Create.

  8. Copy the private API key and save it in a password manager. Do not post it in a support ticket or public document.

The first three scopes let ClickMinded validate your account and load lists and segments. The campaign, template, and metrics scopes are used to create or update drafts and sync campaign performance.

For more detail about private API keys, see Klaviyo’s guide to creating or cloning a private API key.

Step 2: Connect Klaviyo to ClickMinded

  1. Open ClickMinded Newsletter Generator.
  2. Go to Settings > Integrations.
  3. Find Klaviyo and enter an optional account label.
  4. Paste the private API key into Private API Key.
  5. Click Connect Klaviyo.

ClickMinded validates the key and account, then encrypts the key. The key is not displayed after you connect.

Step 3: Configure a newsletter destination

  1. Open the newsletter you want to export.
  2. Open its delivery settings.
  3. Select your Klaviyo connection.
  4. Choose exactly one Klaviyo List or Segment.
  5. Enter the From Name and From Email. Add a Reply-To Email if needed.
  6. Save the delivery settings.

Before exporting, verify the From address or domain in Klaviyo. Also make sure the newsletter has an unsubscribe link in its footer. Klaviyo requires both settings when you send the campaign.

Step 4: Export and send the draft

  1. Open the generated newsletter.
  2. Click Export to Klaviyo.
  3. Open the draft campaign in Klaviyo and review or edit it.
  4. Send or schedule the campaign from Klaviyo when it is ready.

ClickMinded does not send the email. The campaign remains under your control in Klaviyo.

What happens after export

  • ClickMinded creates an editable Klaviyo campaign draft for the selected list or segment.
  • Exporting the same newsletter again updates the existing editable draft.
  • After you send the campaign in Klaviyo, refresh the newsletter performance data in ClickMinded to sync campaign-level results.
  • If the draft has already been scheduled or sent, Klaviyo may no longer allow it to be edited. In that case, ClickMinded creates a replacement draft when you export again.

Troubleshooting

Klaviyo says the key is missing a scope

Private API key scopes cannot be edited after creation. Create a new key with all eight scopes listed in Step 1, then connect it in Settings > Integrations. Do not paste the old key into a support ticket.

No lists or segments appear

Confirm that the key includes lists:read and segments:read, and that the Klaviyo account contains a list or segment. Refresh the destination selector after reconnecting the account.

Add an unsubscribe target in the newsletter footer settings, save the newsletter, and try the export again. ClickMinded converts the unsubscribe target to Klaviyo’s unsubscribe tag in the exported HTML.

Klaviyo will not let me send the draft

Verify the From email address or sending domain in Klaviyo. ClickMinded does not perform sender verification or send the campaign for you.

The key no longer works

The key may have been deleted or revoked in Klaviyo. Create a replacement private API key with the required scopes and connect it again in ClickMinded.

Frequently asked questions
